Traveling with DisabilitiesFAQ

Q If I want to bring an assistance dog on board, do I need to submit any paperwork in advance?

Please be sure to inform us when making your reservation. We will ask you to show us the certificate issued by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare at the airport, so please bring it with you.

Q I have a pacemaker fitted in my heart. Is there anything I should be careful about?

There is no problem with boarding the aircraft, but you may set off the metal detector during security at the airport. Please inform the security staff that you have a pacemaker.

Q I have difficulty maintaining a seated position. Can I still board the plane?

If you cannot maintain a seated position, you will not be allowed to board the aircraft.

Q Can I recline my seat?

It is possible to recline the seats. However, the maximum reclining angle is about 10 degrees, and reclining is not possible during takeoff and landing, or when the seat belt sign is on. In addition, the seats in the last row cannot be reclined.

Q Can I bring medicines (such as diabetic syringes or scissors used for artificial anus insertion) onto the plane?

Syringes and insulin can be carried on board. We recommend that you carry proof that you are carrying syringes (needles) on board. Scissors can be carried on board as long as they are not sharp and the blade is less than 6cm.

Passengers using electric wheelchairs should arrive at the FDA counter 45 minutes before departure, while passengers requiring other assistance should arrive at the FDA counter 30 minutes before departure.

Q Do I need to present a disability certificate on the day of boarding?

This is only required for passengers using the "Disability Discount Fare". Please present this at the check-in counter on the day of departure.

Q Are there any airports that require passengers to go up or down stairs to board an airplane?

Depending on the airport, you may need to board using stairs (approximately 15 steps, 2.6m high), but our staff will assist you. Please note that in such cases, the staff may have to physically touch you when assisting you.
