A trip to Wakkanai, the northernmost region I've always longed to visit, filled with delicious food.

Wakkanai, facing both the Sea of Japan and the Sea of Okhotsk, is a treasure trove of delicious ingredients.
Located at the northernmost point of mainland Japan accessible by land, the seemingly endless coastline offers an exhilarating drive. With numerous classic tourist spots as well as hidden gems, this land offers endless attractions.

Cape Soya
We've arrived at the top of Japan!
Enjoy taking commemorative photos

If you're traveling to Hokkaido, Cape Soya is a must-visit. Located at 45 degrees north latitude, it's the northernmost point of Japan, and a monument called the "Monument to Japan's Northernmost Point," modeled after a single point of the North Star, stands there as proof of its location. On a clear day, you can even see Sakhalin Island across the Soya Strait.

Enjoy at a reasonable price

Soya Kurogyu beef, with its exquisite balance of flavorful lean meat and elegant fat, has fans all over Japan. At "Kaisen Robata Urokotei," a restaurant directly managed by a seafood processing company, you can enjoy a special rice bowl topped with a generous portion of luxurious sirloin steak. Savor this luxurious taste unique to the region.

Relaxing canoe cruising

Lake Onuma is one of the few places in Japan that attracts wild birds, with swans in spring and migratory birds in autumn. Boarding a Canadian canoe for a leisurely cruise will make you feel as if you've become one with the untouched nature. A guide will accompany you, and listening to their explanations will surely lead to many new discoveries.

Cape Nosappu

A scenic spot where you can see as far as Rishiri Island and Rebun Island to watch the sunset.

Octopus shabu

Wakkanai boasts the largest catch of giant Pacific octopus in Japan!
The firm texture is delicious.

Wakkanai Potemaruko

These cookies are made with "Yuchi Imo," a Wakkanai brand certified potato. You can choose from two types: "Shiro Potemaruko" made with white chocolate and "Kuro Potemaruko" made with dark chocolate.

Drift ice manju

When it comes to Wakkanai's representative tourist sweets, it's "Drift Ice Manju." Made with Hokkaido-produced wheat flour, refined sugar, and eggs, it's a fluffy sponge cake generously coated in white chocolate. It's also popular for its moderate sweetness.
