[Important] Changes to the handling of mobile batteries on aircraft (effective April 24, 2026)

In response to the recent global increase in fires related to lithium batteries on aircraft, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has issued the following changes to the number of mobile batteries that can be carried on board and the handling of charging on board, based on deliberations and adoption by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

Main changes

- You are allowed to carry on a mobile battery pack with a limit of two per person (160Wh or less).
Do not charge your mobile battery while on board the aircraft (*)
Do not use a portable battery to charge other electronic devices while on an aircraft.
* FDA-operated flights do not have onboard power outlets.

Effective date: April 24, 2026 (Japan time)
