The majestic equestrian statue of Date Masamune is a must-see landmark in Sendai. Located on the site of Sendai Castle (also known as Aoba Castle), built by Lord Date Masamune, the stone walls and side turrets still remain. The site of the main keep, situated on a hill, offers one of the city's best viewpoints, providing a panoramic view of the city and making it a perfect place to start your trip.

Eating while strolling around "Sendai Morning Market"

The Sendai Morning Market retains traces of its days as an open-air market. Known as "Sendai's kitchen," it boasts a 100-meter stretch packed with shops. This year-round bustling market is sure to lift your spirits from the moment you arrive! There are also affordable options for breakfast and lunch, so be sure to visit before everything sells out.

Scenic spots
To Akiu Great Falls

Just a short trip outside the Sendai Station area, you'll encounter numerous breathtaking natural wonders. One such example is Akiu Great Falls, a magnificent waterfall cascading down from a height of approximately 55 meters. Spring, with its vibrant greenery, and summer, with its refreshing spray, are perfect times for sightseeing. On your way back, stop by Akiu Onsen (hot springs) and fully enjoy the blessings of nature.

Yagiyama Zoological Park

Yagiyama Zoological Park is home to approximately 140 species and 500 animals. There are many attractions, including the "African Zone," where you can see giraffes and elephants living together up close, and the "Carnivore House," where polar bears and lions will greet you. Enjoy feeding the animals and interacting with them in the lush green park.
*To prevent the spread of coronavirus infection, the "Interaction Experience" and "Feeding Experience" will be held outdoors with restrictions on the number of participants and the amount of food provided.

Speaking of Sendai!
Beef tongue is a must-try!

When talking about Sendai, you can't forget the local specialty, "gyutan" (beef tongue). There are many specialty restaurants in the city, and long lines are often seen. In addition to enjoying it grilled over charcoal, there are also restaurants where you can enjoy grilled beef tongue as a set meal for lunch, so be sure to check out some of the famous restaurants in advance.

"Yakurai Garden"

Yakurai Garden in Kami Town, about an hour from Sendai, boasts a vast 150,000 square meter site where seasonal flowers bloom in abundance. From 100,000 violas that bloom in late May, to a 50,000 square meter field of rapeseed flowers, to roses that bloom all at once in June and July, and sunflowers in August, the sheer scale and beauty of the garden is breathtaking.

Matsushima, one of Japan's three most scenic spots.

Located about 40 minutes by train from JR Sendai Station, Matsushima Bay, dotted with over 260 islands, is a famous spot that captivated even the renowned poet Matsuo Basho and Date Masamune. The surrounding area boasts numerous historical buildings, temples, and shrines, making it perfect for a full day's exploration. Viewing the scenery from the sea, such as from a Matsushima sightseeing boat, is also highly recommended.
