Day 3
Photogenic scenic views along the Sea of Japan
We passed through picturesque scenery on our way to Tsunoshima Island.

The exhilarating Tsunoshima Bridge stretches for about 2km, gliding smoothly across to the island. With its clear blue sky, cobalt blue sea, and white sandy beaches, driving across this picturesque scenery will fill your heart with a sense of exhilaration. You can also cross the bridge by rental bicycle, which is especially recommended during the summer months when traffic is at its peak.

The pure white stone Tsunoshima Lighthouse is still in operation 140 years after its construction in 1871. The beauty of the sea viewed from the lighthouse is exceptional. It's said to be a popular spot for couples, known as the "Lighthouse of Love." A magnificent view of the Sea of Japan unfolds below. The sunset viewed from here is also exceptional.

123 beautiful yet mysterious red torii gates

Motonosumi Shrine, located about 40 minutes by car from Tsunoshima, has been gaining attention in Japan after being featured on an overseas website as a hidden gem with stunning scenery.
The 123 vermilion torii gates leading towards the rocky cliffs of the sea create a beautiful yet mysterious landscape. Beyond the gates lies a plaza, and the view of the torii gates from here is also a recommended photo spot.
If you're lucky, you might be able to see a large column of water known as "Ryugu no Shiofuki" (Dragon Palace's Spout) at the cliffs further ahead.

End your trip at Japan's most popular roadside station.

This popular roadside station has been ranked No. 1 nationwide on a travel review website.
The popular "Futami Manju" are bite-sized and have a simple, rustic flavor. Once you finish one, you'll want another. You can also buy souvenirs from Shimonoseki's sea, such as dried pufferfish, here. At the restaurant "Wakuwaku-tei," we recommend the seafood bowl topped with freshly caught seasonal fish. The seasonal "live swordtip squid sashimi" is also exquisite.

Michi-no-Eki Kitaura Kaido Hohoku Website

A packed 3-day trip to Kitakyushu and Yamaguchi. It offers the allure of the sea, the unique history and culture of the region, and delicious food. Why not consider visiting?
